Thanks to a larger lithium-ion battery pack the Plug-In offers extended electric-only driving in comparison to the standard Prius. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT) paired with FWD enables the Prius Plug-In to achieve an EPA estimated range of 50 mpg (when in hybrid mode) to 95 MPGe (mile per gallons equivalents in electric-only mode).
